About Us

Calm temperaments, strong frames, and unforgettable egg color — that’s the heart of Shaded Shells.

At Shaded Shells, we believe a great flock starts with great stock and clear, caring support. We’re a family farm in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, focused on calm temperaments, strong frames, and the egg color and type our customers love—from chocolatey Black Copper Marans to the classic terra-cotta of Welsummers, the blue tones of Ameraucanas, the fun greens of Olive/Moss layers, the richly hued Chocolate Layers, and the impressive size and stature of Jersey Giants.

Our NPIP Participation

We participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) through the NCDA&CS Veterinary Division here in North Carolina. NPIP is a voluntary state–federal cooperative program that helps safeguard poultry health across the industry. As participants, we follow established standards for testing and certification related to diseases such as Pullorum-Typhoid, Mycoplasma, and Avian Influenza.

What that means for you:

(If you need our current NPIP details for your records or interstate shipping, just ask—happy to provide.)
